Spring is here, and it is time to get out and get gardening. Every season has its ideal plants to grow and propagate for the coming year, and it is the perfect time to start thinking about which vegetables to plant in Spring so that you can enjoy a bountiful harvest. However, it is important to keep in mind that just because it is Spring does not mean that Mother Nature will not try to throw one last freeze over the land and ruin any prospects of growth.

Therefore, it is crucial to understand which vegetables to plant in Spring to achieve the best output. This way, it is possible to get started without watching the newly bedded plants wither and die without a chance.

1. Asparagus

This vegetable is not only perfectly adapted for early Spring planting, but it is a perennial and only gets better with time. With each successive year, asparagus plants grow more productive and can provide a harvest that can last months. This hardy plant is easy to start and does not require too much attention, making it one of the perfect vegetables to plant in Spring.

2. Beets

Not only are beets packed full of so many nutrients that they have been labeled a “super food”, but they are a great, hardy root that does well in the Spring. Beets can be planted as early as March, and are usually ready for harvest within a couple of months. It is important that these vegetables are not crowded to ensure the best growth possible. Beets are perfect for early Spring planting in particular because they grow their best and biggest in cooler weather.

Spinach is another example of a vegetable that requires a cooler environment to grow well. This leafy green vegetable grows fast and abundant, which is good since the first signs of warm weather will start to wilt its rounded foliage. Now, while tomatoes are not strictly a vegetable per their professional classification, for most gardeners, they still have a “vegetable” staple. While certainly not the favorite vegetable in the garden for most, Brussels sprouts provide plenty of nutrients and, when cooked right, can add a great deal of flavor to any veggie dish. One big benefit of planting a Brussels sprout in the garden is that a single plant provides a large number of tiny sprouts that you can harvest and enjoy. So there is no need to plant too many of these hardy vegetables to get the best results.

The earlier you plant the broccoli the better so that it will not wilt when the warmer summer weather starts to roll in.
